abstract = "In face of the many techniques used for the monitoring and
evaluation of changes in structure, physiognomy and dynamics in
forest cover over time highlights the use of Normalized Difference
Vegetation Index (NDVI). This index allows us to do analyses, at
different scales of the vegetation cover of a given region, being
acquired by the ratio between values of reflectance of bands in
the near infrared and red. In view of theforegoing, the objective
of this study was to map the change of vegetation cover in the
watershed of the Rio Farinha, through (NDVI) in the period from
2005 to 2015. In this study were used images of the dry period of
the satellites Landsat 5 TM (2005) and Landsat 8 (2015). The
values obtained with the NDVI proved to be quite efficient and
accurate for the identification of the vegetation cover of the
watershed of the Rio Farinha, we can observe a considerable
advance in the degradation of the condition of plant cover in the
watershed of the study area, between the years analyzed, caused
mainly by agricultural activities and mining activities in an
unsustainable way in the region, especially on the banks of water
bodies. The employment of the software QGIS and the use of images
from satellites Landsat 5 and Landsat 8, if configured as
important tools for the acquisition and processing of data for
environmental monitoring.",
